Up to the next event!

by The_Code on Mar.09, 2010, under Events, openSUSE

As this blog is more and more converting into a “meet me at …” blog, I want to keep this tradition.

On next weekend I will be present at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage running the openSUSE booth there, so if you don’t know what todo next weekend and you are in the Chemnitz area stop by and visit Chemnitzer Linux-Tage, of course stop by at the openSUSE booth :)

Of course there are also a number of interesting talks over there, so it is really worth a visit.

Also we will have our booth maned on Saturday and Sunday, so if you have some spare time next weekend and are in the Bottrop area, drop by and visit us!

And of course don’t forget to check out our neighboring projects, the booth next to us will be the invis server project, an openSUSE based small business server solution, and openSUSE VorKon, a German preconfigured  openSUSE with some custom software, will also have a booth next to us. So drop by and check it out!

Summary of openSUSE @ FrOSCon 2009

by The_Code on Aug.27, 2009, under Events, openSUSE

Last weekend the FrOSCon took place in Sankt Augustin and again this year openSUSE was present with a booth! For the first time in germany the booth was driven only by Ambassadors and users, AFAIK. So for this reason the event already was a huge success for openSUSE!

The new layout of the fair was much better this year, everything was on one level. Especially on Saturday afternoon there were a lot of people visiting and we were able to have good conversations and spread a lot of openSUSE DVDs.

The most exciting thing that happened was a blind visitor coming to our booth, he told us that our grub during installation was able to talk! We couldn’t believe it and no one ever heard of this feature, but it is true the openSUSE installation grub is able to talk, press F9 and it will begin reading the current selection. Unfortunately this is not visible in grub, feature request in openFATE is here.

You can find pictures of our booth and the event here.

Up next openSUSE conference in Nuremberg, looking forward to this great event!

Back from LinuxTag 2009

by The_Code on Jun.29, 2009, under Easy-LTSP, Events, openSUSE, openSUSE Education

It was great to be at LinuxTag, it was the first time I have been to LinuxTag in fact!

So here is what happened to me at LinuxTag:

On Thursday I had an interview with Radio Tux about openSUSE Education, which is not published yet.

On Saturday henne and I got interviewed by linux-club.de henne talked about SUSE-Studio and i gave some facts about openSUSE Education, you can listen to it here (German).

On Saturday we also had openSUSE day at LinuxTag and i had the opportunity of talking about Easy-LTSP (in English), a video of my talk and the slides will be available soon in the openSUSE wiki. And according to AJ it must be worth watching it :)

Beside these “major” things i had a lot of talks with teachers who want to use openSUSE in there schools and it was really great to show them how easy openSUSE Education Li-f-e is.

And of course it was great to meet all the people at the openSUSE booth and nubae!

Thanks to all who have visited us and to all who made it possible to present openSUSE and openSUSE Education in the way we could!

Be sure to checkout Adrian’s pictures, you can see our cool openSUSE Education shirts on some.

Announcing Easy-KIWI-GUI

by The_Code on Nov.03, 2008, under Easy-KIWI, Easy-KIWI-GUI, openSUSE

Almost two months have past since my last post. So here i am again!

Cyberorg introduced easy-kiwi-build, a command line tool to create KIWI images. He also announced that i will do a little GUI for it and here it is, finally ;)

It is not yet feature complete, but can help you with the basic configuration for easy-kiwi-build.

As a little screen says more:

You can get it via 1-click.

I am also currently working on some bugfixes for Easy-LTSP and as this is the second time i have to parse a file in /etc/sysconfig i am also working on a Mono library for parsing and manipulating those files.

Google Summer of Code is over, but we have a great Logo :)

by The_Code on Sep.04, 2008, under GSoC, LTSP-GUI, openSUSE

So Google Summer of Code is definitely over!

It was a great experience starting working in open source with such a program! My work on Easy-LTSP will continue and as you might have read her i have started to work on another great project for openSUSE, the openSUSE education project. The graphical part of the YaST module is almost done, so no new screens of that (only ycp code now).

But Easy-LTSP has some eyecandy for you :) Enjoy the new Easy-LTSP logo:

Thanks to cyberorg for having such a great artist on the hand. But that’s not all cyberorg did for Easy-LTSP, he made a great video about using Kiwi-LTSP and Easy-LTSP to setup an LTSP server on openSUSE.

For those of you waiting for photos of Hackweek and FrOSCon, be patient hopefully tomorrow i have more time!

Hackweek III: openSUSE-Education YaST Module

by The_Code on Aug.28, 2008, under Events, openSUSE

We want to provide you with a little info on our Hackweek project.

openSUSE-Education YaST Module. It’s a module that should help parents to restrict their childrens user accounts by using predefined Kiosk and sabayon templates, which are associated with a certain group. You can also create new users directly in the module and add them to the Kiosk and sabayon groups. As work continues here are some little screenshots of what we have:

I requested to become a openSUSE member

by The_Code on Aug.28, 2008, under openSUSE

I applied to become openSUSE member! Why did i do that?

It’s not because of the @opensuse.org mail address, it’s not because of the Freenode cloak!

No it’s because i can vote!

So all openSUSE contributers and users out there, who are not member yet, apply to become a member!

Apply to be able to vote.

Voting the board is a good way to have influence on the way openSUSE is developing! So apply to become a member, it’s worth it!

Here is a picture of the openSUSE booth here in St. Augustin:

More pictures coming soon.

BTW: I will be joining Novell/SUSE next week for HackWeek working on the YaST Module for the education project. Looking forward to this cool event!
